The Passing of Maryanne Trump Barry, A Retired Judge and Trump’s Older Sister

Maryanne Trump Barry, the eldest sister of former President Donald Trump, has passed away at the age of 86. Her death was confirmed by US media reports, stating that she was found dead in her New York City apartment on Monday morning. The cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

Mrs. Barry had an impressive career as a federal judge in New Jersey, serving from 1983 until her retirement in 2019. She was the third sibling of Mr. Trump to pass away, following the deaths of his brothers Fred and Robert. Mrs. Barry’s passing marks another tragic loss for the Trump family.

It was reported that emergency crews responded to a call of a person in cardiac arrest, with no signs of trauma or foul play. A medical examiner will later determine the cause of death.

Mrs. Barry played a significant role in the legal profession, serving as one of the only two female prosecutors in the US Attorney’s Office in New Jersey from 1974 to 1983. She then went on to be nominated as a federal district judge by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. Her nomination was supported by her brother’s lawyer and fixer, Roy Cohn.

In a memoir written by her niece Mary, titled “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man,” Mrs. Barry revealed that her nomination as a federal district judge was the only favor she ever asked for in her life. However, she claimed that Mr. Trump never let her forget it, often stating, “Where would you be without me?”

Throughout her career, Mrs. Barry made significant contributions to the legal system. In 1999, she was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She served as a judge for this circuit, which covers parts of New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

Despite being a Republican like her brother, Mrs. Barry preferred to stay out of the public spotlight and did not openly speak about Donald Trump. However, her relationship with him took a turn after the release of her niece’s book, which included conversations between Mrs. Barry and Mary Trump. Excerpts from these tapes were shared by Mary Trump, revealing Mrs. Barry’s criticism of her brother’s character and actions.

While they had their differences, the siblings were in the process of repairing their relationship. They were seen together this summer at the former president’s club in Bedminster, New Jersey. This indicates that they were making progress in mending fences.

Mrs. Barry was married twice and had one son named David. Her second husband, John Joseph Barry, passed away in 2000. She leaves behind her only surviving sister, Elizabeth Trump Grau, who is a former banker.

The passing of Maryanne Trump Barry is a significant moment for the Trump family. As they mourn the loss of their elder sister, they will also reflect on her achievements as a federal judge and her impact on the legal system. Her passing highlights the importance of family bonds and the complex dynamics within the Trump family. May she rest in peace.
