Mattel seeks Chief Uno Player to promote new game

Toymaker Mattel is on the hunt for a Chief Uno Player to help promote its new Uno game. The company has announced the opportunity for enthusiasts of the card game to apply on TikTok for the part-time position. The position, based in New York, will last for four weeks starting in September. The responsibilities of the role include playing the new game, Uno Quatro, for four hours a day, four days a week.

Applicants must be US residents and at least 18 years old to be considered for the position. The selected candidate will receive a weekly payment of $4,444.44 (£3,500). The response to the job offer has been significant, with a TikTok video announcing the role receiving approximately 9,000 likes and numerous replies expressing interest.

Mattel’s global head of games, Ray Adler, stated that the company is constantly seeking new ways to engage with Uno fans. The Chief Uno Player will have the opportunity to create and star in social media posts, give interviews, and challenge strangers to play the new version of the game.

However, candidates should be aware of certain requirements before applying. They must be able to sit for long periods, lift and carry 50 lbs, and set up playing tables and tents on location.

This search for a Chief Uno Player follows Mattel’s success in creating excitement around the Barbie movie, featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Nonetheless, the company is still in need of hits as its sales for the April-June period decreased by 12% compared to the previous year, with profits also declining from $68m to $27m in the same quarter.

The deadline to apply for the Chief Uno Player position is August 10th. Mattel aims to bring an in-person gameplay experience to fans like never before with the appointment of the first-ever Chief Uno Player.
