Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas’s political wing in Gaza, is one of Israel’s most wanted men. He has been accused of being responsible for the 7 October raid into southern Israel, in which thousands of people were killed and kidnapped. Sinwar, also known as Abu Ibrahim, was born in the Khan Younis refugee camp and educated at the Islamic University of Gaza. He has spent over 22 years in Israeli prisons, which appears to have radicalized him further. Sinwar is known for his brutality and violence, earning him the nickname “The Butcher of Khan Younis.” Despite being designated as a global terrorist by the US State Department, killing him would be more of a PR victory for Israel rather than a significant blow to Hamas. The bigger question remains what will happen to Gaza once Israel ends its military campaign against Hamas.
