The United States has announced that it will resume shipments of 500lb bombs to Israel after a brief pause that began in May. The pause was due to White House concerns over the use of such munitions in densely populated areas like Rafah and other parts of Gaza. The decision to resume the shipment comes as Israel continues its military operations in the Gaza Strip, dropping leaflets to warn residents to seek shelter in safer areas. The diplomatic spat caused by the delay in the weapons shipment was resolved after Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant met with US envoy Brett McGurk in Washington, where they discussed the delivery of critical munitions to Israel. Despite the pause in 2,000lb bomb shipments, Israel has been receiving other types of U.S. weaponry. However, the issue is likely to remain a contentious point between the two allies.
